Choosing the Long Way on Purpose

6th chapter from The Olysis Origin Story

Sara teaching Jamie electrolysis

When the Pattern Became Clear

By this point, Jamie had learned something difficult about ownership.

No one can care about a business quite the way its owner does.

For years, she had searched for solutions that seemed obvious on paper.

Hire the right people. Build the right team. Find someone with the experience to take the lead.

Sometimes those solutions worked for a while.

Sometimes they didn't.

But the pattern kept repeating.

The future of the business always seemed to depend on someone else.

As client schedules fluctuated and staffing challenges continued, the investment she had worked so hard to preserve began to feel increasingly fragile.

The business needed stability.

The clients needed consistency.

And waiting for the perfect solution was no longer a strategy.

A Decision Years in the Making

So Jamie made a decision she had been circling for years.

She would learn electrolysis herself.

Not because it was easy.

Not because it was part of the original plan.

Because it was necessary.

Sara agreed to train her.

Before the first lesson, Jamie did what she usually did when faced with something important:

She studied.

She read. She took notes. She asked questions.

By the time training began, she had already immersed herself in the fundamentals of the profession she had spent years observing from the treatment table.

Learning Through Practice

The technical skills still had to be learned.

The hand movements. The insertions. The judgment. The patience.

Those only come with practice.

So she practiced.

And then she did something simple.

She asked her community for help.

Local neighbors were invited to become training models in exchange for complimentary treatment time.

An Unexpected Response

What happened next was unexpected.

The schedule filled almost immediately.

Friends told friends.

Neighbors shared recommendations.

People who knew her from the community decided to give her a chance.

Before any formal marketing existed, appointments were booked.

Reviews appeared.

Clients returned.

Some stayed for years.

The Power of Trust

The experience revealed something important.

People weren't responding to advertising.

They were responding to trust.

To consistency.

To care.

And perhaps most importantly, they were responding to someone willing to do the work rather than delegate it.

For the first time, the business no longer depended entirely on finding the next provider.

It had gained something more durable.

A foundation.

The Real Goal

Looking back, becoming an electrologist was not the goal.

The goal was responsibility.

Learning the profession gave Jamie a deeper appreciation for the standards she had spent years watching Sara defend.

It also proved something both of them already suspected.

Quality still matters.

People notice.

And when standards are paired with genuine care, communities respond.
